What is the Janesville Police Department Explorer Post?

The Janesville Police Department Explorer Post is an organization of young adults between the ages of fifteen and twenty-one. The main objective of Post 500 is to introduce its members to different experiences and aspects in the various areas of law enforcement. Explorers will receive training and knowledge in these areas through lectures and practical applications. Other activities may include volunteering throughout the community in various activities such as the neighborhood block parties hosted by the Janesville Police Department, assisting in traffic control during the Fourth of July celebration at Traxler Park, participating in department training events such as K-9, S.W.A.T., Mobile Field Force, in-service, and other training sessions.

How to get involved with the Explorer Post

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Janesville Police Department Explorer Post must be willing to attend monthly meetings and training sessions. Meetings and training opportunities are scheduled multiple times a month to experience different aspects of law enforcement. Members must also be willing to volunteer their time in the various community service projects that Post 500 is involved in.


  • Between the age of 15 and 21,
  • Be in good standing with the Janesville Police Department,
  • and fill out an application, pass a background check, and complete a panel interview.

The Explorer Post 500 accepts applications continuously throughout the year.  Applications may be printed, completed, and returned to the Janesville Police Department.
