Janesville Fire Department Urges Residents to Practice Safety with Fireworks

Post Date:06/18/2020 7:46 am

This season, many individuals will choose to use novelty fireworks devices to celebrate the holidays with family and friends. These devices, such as ground fountains, sparklers, snakes, poppers, caps and some smoke effect devices are NOT fireworks and are legal to use. Fireworks are devices which leave the ground such as aerial shells, bottle rockets, jumping jacks, etc. and are prohibited without approved permits. Possessing or using fireworks is illegal without a valid permit in Wisconsin.

While novelty devices are legal, be aware that these devices are still dangerous. For example, sparklers are reported to burn between 1,800-3,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Always read and follow all warning labels and instructions. Never allow children to handle, play with, or light any novelty device. Do not handle devices which did not ignite. Allow devices to cool overnight before disposing of the devices.

For more information about fireworks, please contact the Janesville Fire Department at (608) 755-3050.
