Watermain Scheduled To Be Installed Along Black Bridge Road In Coming Months

The City will complete the installation of a new 24” diameter watermain along Black Bridge Road during the 2010 construction season. The project is 7200 feet in length extending from approximately 350 feet west of Mayfair Drive, near the City Landfill, to Pontiac Drive.

Work is expected to begin in late March and continue through the end of July. The project will be broken into a minimum of three segments to reduce the impact to traffic and neighboring property owners. During construction it will be necessary to shut off the water in isolated areas for short periods of time. Impacted property owners will be notified prior to any water being shut off. After completion of the watermain installation all disturbed areas will be restored and the pavement will be temporarily repaired. During 2011, the full width of the pavement on Black Bridge Road will be milled and repaved to provide the final pavement surface. This two phase project approach will allow for any settlement of the street patches over the winter prior to permanent pavement restoration.

Traffic will be restricted on Black Bridge Road to one lane in each direction during construction. Milton Avenue traffic will also be restricted to one lane in each direction during construction in the immediate vicinity. Side streets intersecting Black Bridge Road may be closed to traffic for short periods of time during construction.

Motorist should exercise caution while traveling on Black Bridge Road by reducing speed, obeying traffic signs/flag person, and/or finding alternative routes during this construction period.

There will be a public open house prior to the start of the construction scheduled from 6-7PM on Tuesday, March 16 in Room 416 of the Municipal Building, 18 N. Jackson Street. For questions concerning the work, please contact Project Engineer, Tim Whittaker at 755-3169.
