The schedule for trash and recyclable collection around holidays (New Year’s Day; Memorial Day; Independence Day; Labor Day; Thanksgiving Day; Christmas Day) changes as follows:
If the actual (not observed) holiday falls anywhere Monday through Friday:
- There will be no collection on the holiday
- If your regular collection day falls on or after the holiday, collection will be delayed by one day during that week
- For those whose collection day is normally Friday, this will mean collection is delayed to Saturday
If the actual holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday:
- There will be no changes to the regular collection schedule that week
Holiday Wastes Disposal
Dispose of holiday wreaths, trees, and garlands at the curb with your trash on your regular trash collection day or take them to the sanitary landfill. Please do not take them to the City's compost site because they are not considered yard waste.
Gift boxes can be recycled with other papers. Tape, twine, or staples can remain on any boxes when recycling them. Wrapping paper can be disposed of with trash, but it is okay if non-metallic wrapping paper is included with other recyclables. Reuse bows and ribbons, but do not recycle them.
Christmas Tree Pickup
A separate, special collection for Christmas trees will be provided the second full week of January each year. Trees should be placed at the curb on your regular collection day during that week. Trees should be cut into four-foot sections. You can also cut your Christmas tree into small sections that will fit completely into your trash collection cart or take your Christmas trees to the public drop-off area at the sanitary landfill on Black Bridge Road.
