Summary of Services
The Janesville Transit System (JTS) offers regular bus service Monday through Saturday on six routes inside Janesville, with the Beloit-Janesville Express operating weekdays between the two cities. After 6:15 on weekday evenings, 3 buses operate until 10:15 p.m. on three "Nightside" routes. During peak travel periods JTS provides extra service routes. JTS buses are accessible to disabled persons, including those in wheelchairs. "Dial-A-Ride" paratransit van service is available for persons with disabilities who are unable to use regular buses.
The City owns 17 full-size buses and 1 paratransit van in the active fleet. The JTS maintenance department provides a strong preventive maintenance program designed to maximize equipment utilization and availability. It also provides for upkeep of fixed facilities including the Transfer Center at 123 S. River Street, the Transit Services Center at 101 Black Bridge Road, as well as passenger shelters, benches, and bus stop signs throughout the community.
Road Construction to Cause JTS Routes to Detour April 11--21, 2017
The Beloit Janesville Express (BJE), Southwest Special and Nightside West bus routes will require detouring due to the utility work taking place from April 11-21. From W. State Street, the BJE southbound route will detour using S. Crosby Avenue to King Street and then resume the route at S. River Road; the BJE northbound will use the same streets in reverse for its detour.
From W. State Street, the morning Southwest Special route will detour using S. Crosby Avenue to King Street and then resume the route at S. River Road. The afternoon Southwest Special will use the same streets in reverse for its detour.
From W. State Street, the Nightside West route will detour using King Street to S. Crosby Avenue and then resume the route at W. State Street.
This detour will temporarily close the following bus stops:
- Bus stops at the intersection of S. River Rd & W. State Street;
- Bus stop at the intersection of S. River Rd & Joliet Street; and
- Bus stops near Cedar Crest Apartments.
Alternate bus stop locations are: intersection of S. Crosby Avenue & W. State Street and S. Crosby Avenue & King Street. BJE customers may also use the intersection of Crosby & Joliet.
JTS thanks its passengers for their flexibility during the upcoming construction season. For questions, call JTS at 755-3150.
