Water Utility Facilities
Currently, the City of Janesville is served by eight wells with a total pumping capacity of over 22,000 gallons per minute or 32 million gallons per day. Four of the wells supply water from the sand and gravel deposits in the pre-glacial Rock River Valley while the other four penetrate the St. Peter Sandstone and are deep wells. Water from these wells is pumped through the distribution system with the excess collected in two earth-covered concrete storage reservoirs. Because of the elevation of these reservoirs they provide system pressure as well as 14 million gallons of storage capacity.
