life in Janesville by working cooperatively with the community and
citizens to enforce the law, preserve the peace, reduce the fear of crime
and provide for a safe environment.
We Believe
In the value of human life and dignity for all. In ourselves, both as
individuals and as an organization. In the value of partnership with our
community. In the value of employee problem solving. In the value of
teamwork. In planning for and shaping the future.
Our History
The City of Janesville was incorporated in 1853. At that time
Janesville was becoming established as an industrial city. Janesville was
then protected by a constabulary which consisted of an elected marshal and
one elected constable from each of the five wards. The first Police Chief
was appointed on January 11, 1897. Since that time Janesville has
continued to grow and prosper. The Janesville Police Department has
progressively grown in an effort to keep pace with the city it serves.
