JTS Nightside Bus Routes

JTS' "Nightside" service meets your requests for expanded service into the evening hours with three convenient routes that will connect with jobs, services, and community life until 10:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. "Nightside" goes where you need and want to go inside Janesville: the Milton Avenue/US 14 northside commercial area; downtown to the library, shopping, and services; west to medical clinics and the Court Street corridor; south to UW-Rock County for night classes and neighborhood shopping; east to school and youth activities; and home again! Click the folder icon at the top of this webpage for a map of the "Nightside" route. The "Nightside" routes cover the City once each hour beginning at 6:15 p.m., and just like during the day, you can transfer from route-to-route to get where you need to go. Our beautiful Downtown Transfer Center is open until 10:15 p.m. with its brightly lighted exterior platform, climate-controlled waiting room, and restrooms for your safety and convenience. Our Dispatcher is on duty at the Transfer Center during the evening hours to assist you in using the "Nightside" service, selling tokens and passes, and making change. Finally, perhaps the most interesting part of our "Nightside" service is the "Route Deviation" feature, which allows the bus driver to go up to three blocks off the published route to make pickups or drop offs.

Days and Hours of Service

JTS Nightside Service operates Monday-Friday, 6:15-10:15 p.m., except on major holidays as listed. No Service on: Any Saturday or Sunday; New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day.

Persons with Disabilities

All Nightside Service buses are equipped with wheelchair ramps and tiedowns; persons with disabilities ride at half fare with a federal Medicare card or Transit ID.

Bus Stops

Nightside buses will stop at any safe intersection along the routes as well as at specially marked "Nightside" bus stops. Look for the words "Night Stop" with the green background on the bus stop sign to determine if a Nightside bus stops there. Please stand in clear view and signal the driver to stop as the bus approaches. This is particularly important during darkness. Click here to view the "Nightside" bus stop designation.

Route Deviation Service

For extra convenience and for your night time safety, JTS Nightside service incorporates a new service concept called "Route Deviation". On request, bus drivers will deviate off the routes up to three blocks to pick up or drop off passengers at a street corner closer to their origin or destination.

Heres how Route Deviation works:

  • Route Deviation Pickup: Consult a Nightside schedule to find out when the bus will be a point closest to your location. At least 1 hour before the bus is scheduled to arrive at that location, call the JTS Dispatcher to request a route deviation pick-up. Please give the dispatcher your address or the name of the intersection nearest to you. If you are at a large facility such as Cedar Crest, Teamster Manor, Golden Acres, etc., use that name. The Dispatcher will tell you where to wait for the bus and the approximate time (within 5 minutes or so) that you can expect to be picked up. Please remember to allow enough time to get to the bus stop from where you are when making your call!!
  • Route Deviation Drop Off: When you board the bus, if you wish to be dropped off somewhere off the published route, please inform the driver right away! Give the driver the name of the intersection or the name of the facility that you wish to go to. This will allow the driver to contact the Dispatcher and plan ahead for the time needed to get you to your desired destination.
  • Route Deviation Restrictions: Route deviation service is available in residential areas only.
  • Route Deviation Service will not be offered in the following areas:

    • Any part of the Milton Avenue route north of Mt. Zion Avenue
    • Any route segment in the Downtown area; defined as the area south of Centerway, east of Center Avenue, north of Racine Street, and west of Atwood Avenue.
    • Any portion of the "Nightside East" north of Mt. Zion and west of Randall Avenue.

There is no extra charge for Route deviation service. This also allows us to cover the entire City with three buses instead of six, saving the taxpayers of Janesville money at the same time as providing better service.
