Grant Funds Available for the Removal of Blighted Homes and Garages

The City of Janesville recently established a grant program that provides funds to income-eligible residents to demolish blighted homes or garages on their property. The Nuisance & Housing Code Advisory Committee recommended the institution of this grant program with the purpose of improving the overall aesthetics of Janesville neighborhoods and reducing the upkeep of irreparable buildings.

Grant consideration is primarily based upon financial need and the structural condition of the building to be demolished. Grants will be awarded for a maximum of $1,000 for garages and $5,000 for single-family homes. Funding for this program is made possible through Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.
