Officers are on duty 24 hours a day. Officer dispatch is also available 24 hours a day.

To view the WI Dept. of Corrections notification program for the release of jail inmates (VINE program), click here. This service allows crime victims to obtain timely and reliable information about criminal cases and the custody status of offenders 24 hours a day. Victims and other concerned citizens can also register to be notified by phone, email or TTY device when an offender's custody status changes.

The Janesville Police Department's mission is to enhance the quality of life in Janesville by working cooperatively with the community and citizens to enforce the law, preserve the peace, reduce the fear of crime and provide for a safe environment. The Janesville Police Department was awarded Certificate of Accreditation in May 2000 by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG). The accreditation recognizes that Janesville's police department exemplifies the best professional practices in the conduct of its responsibilities.

You can obtain copies of accident and police reports at the Police Department. A copy of an accident report costs $1.00, and a copy of a police report costs 25 cents per page. Non criminal fingerprints can be obtained at the Police Department for a $5 charge. Call the General Information number for an appointment. Contact Leisure Services for information regarding a street closing permit for block parties or other special events. For any other type of street closing needed, contact the Police Department during business hours.
