Dollar Dip: Admission is only $1.00 the last hour of the day at Rockport Pool.

Booklet passes:  Available at each facility. Each booklet contains 15 passes and may be used at either facility.

Deep Water Pass - Rockport Pool requires all swimmers 14 years old and younger to successfully pass a deep water swim test to use the deep areas and diving well. The pass costs $2.00 and must be worn at all times. A replacement fee of $2.00 will be charged for all lost passes.

Lap Swimming - Individuals 16 years of age and older are welcome. Cost is $1.00 per person.

Facility Rental - Rockport Pool is available for rent during non-public open swim hours which is between 8:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. daily and 9:00 a.m. - noon Saturday and Sunday. Rental costs (per hour) are based on number of participants as follows:

Palmer Park Wading Pool

The wading pool in Palmer Park has filtered water and various water features. Admission is free. No children over eight years old are allowed. All children must be supervised by an adult.

Summer Swim Lessons and Programs

We offer children's swimming lessons, youth swim camp, adult hydro-aerobics, and lap swimming during the summer at Rockport Pool. Lessons are available in the morning and evening. Advance registration is required for all swim lessons. For information on lesson time and locations, or any other aquatics programs contact Leisure Services or see the Summer Activity Guide.

Red Cross Swim Lessons                                                

Lessons are taught according to American Red Cross Standards. Private lessons can be arranged upon request. If through staff observations, a person is unable to fit within the structure of an activity, a Recreation Department program employee will recommend an alternative appropriate placement. Lessons are taught according to Red Cross standards. Parents are welcome to watch lessons from viewing areas.

Parent/tot (6months - 3 years old): Adult must accompany child in the water. Introduces child to water adjustment skills.

Level I - Water Exploration:  Develops buoyancy and breath control. Introduces front crawl, reaching assists, and fundamentals of using a life jacket. No pre-requisite.

Level II - Primary Skills: Develops floating and kicking skills. Introduces rhythmic breathing, combined stroke on front and back, reaching and extension assists and rescue breathing. Prerequisite: Pass Level I or can kick on stomach with face in water and supported kick on back.

Level III - Stroke Readiness: Develops elementary back-stroke, front and back crawl. Introduces jumping into the water with life jacket, diving from the side, treading water and self-rescue skills. Pre-requisite: Pass Level II or can kick 5 yards on back and front and do rhythmic breathing.

Level IV - Stroke Development: Develops breast-stroke, sidestroke and deep water bobbing. Introduces diving off the side of the pool from stride and standing positions, turns at the wall, familiarity with CPR and sculling. Pre-requisite:  Pass Level III or can do 10 yards of elementary back stroke, back crawl and front crawl with breathing.

Level V - Stroke Refinement: Develops alternative breathing, swimming under water and butterfly kick. Introduces open turns on front and back, diving safely and progression from the board. Pre-requisite: Pass Level IV or can do 25 yards back and front crawl, 10 yards breast and side stroke, kick and elementary back stroke, dive into pool and deep water bobbing.

Level VI - Skill Proficiency: Develops approach and hurdle on diving board, tuck and pike surface dives, introduces alternative kicks for treading water, turn spinal victim, approach stroke and butterfly stroke. Pre-requisite: Pass Level V or can do stride jump, long shallow dive, 10 yards dolphin kick, open turns, 2 minutes treading water, 10 yards side and breast stroke, 25 yards elementary back stroke and 50 yards front and back crawl.

Level VII - Advance Skills: Incorporates swim skills and lifetime fitness. Develops springboard dive in tuck and pike positions, introduces in-water rescue techniques using equipment, reviews basic water safety skills and back boarding and 500 yard swim with all 6 well coordinated strokes.  Pre-requisite: Pass Level VI or can do dive from board, turns for all strokes, 25 yard approach stroke, breast and side strokes, 19 yards butterfly and 100 yards front and back crawl.

Youth Swim Camp

This camp is for experienced swimmers who wish to swim at a competitive level. Camp begins in late June and runs through late August. A city swim meet will be held at the end of the summer. For more information, contact Leisure Services.

Adult Hydro Aerobics

This is a fun and refreshing class that emphasizes toning, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance through water aerobics. Exercises are done in shallow water and do not require swimming ability. Class starts in mid June and meets Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Rockport Pool. Cost $2.50 per class and is payable at the pool
