City of Janesville Thanks Theresa Biele for 29 Years of Service

Post Date:01/10/2019 10:23 am

As of Friday, January 4, 2019, Theresa Biele officially retired from the City of Janesville.  Theresa has served as an employee at Hedberg Public Library since her hire in October 1989.

Theresa, who has a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, taught for four years and then left teaching to raise her family.  When her children were older, she went back to work starting part-time, then full-time, at the library.  She held several positions at the library including reference assistant, security supervisor, and interlibrary loan assistant.  She retired as the Interlibrary Loan Technician and Reference Team Coordinator.

Originally from Chicago, Theresa and her husband moved to Janesville for a better life for their kids.  They sought safety and good schools.  She enjoys the lack of traffic that you find in big cities.

As Theresa’s retirement happens during “the dead of winter,” she says she’ll be happy just to be home as she has lots of books to read. Theresa also plans to spend time reconnecting with family including her sisters and other relatives, and she’s especially looking forward to spending time with her granddaughters who are seven and six.  She has three children; one who lives in Waukesha, and two who are in Madison.  Her husband owns an upholstery business in Janesville.

Although Theresa won’t miss getting up in the morning and going out in bad weather, there are things she’ll miss about her job: “I enjoyed the people I worked with.  I had a very good team at the library.  Everyone helps each other out.  It was a very good experience and a pleasant place to be most of the time.”  She said it was a great place to work and enjoyed the way her job duties changed over the years—she remarked that it was always interesting.

Of her career with the City and HPL: “It’s been a good ride.”

The City of Janesville would like to thank Theresa Biele for her more than 29 years of dedicated service to her community and to the City of Janesville and Hedberg Public Library.  We wish you all the best in your retirement!
