City of Janesville to Receive Award for 2017 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR)

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has awarded the City of Janesville the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting for the 2017 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). This is the 25th consecutive year the City has received the award.  The CAFR is prepared each year to fairly present the financial position and operations of City funds.  The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting will be presented at the City Council meeting on Monday, January 28 at 6 p.m.

The City’s 2017 CAFR serves as a supplement to the 2017 City budget and provides a more detailed look at the City’s funds and operations.  The CAFR includes financial statements and short narratives describing the purpose of each fund.  The financial statements are prepared according to Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP).  An independent Certified Public Accountant then audits the statements according to Generally Accepted Audit Standards (GAAS).

The public is invited to the City Council meeting held in the Council Chambers at City Hall (18 N. Jackson Street) for the award presentation.
