Janesville City Council Proclaims Summer of 2018 as “Summer of Get Fit 608”
During Monday’s meeting, the Janesville City Council proclaimed this summer as Janesville’s first ever summer of fitness. In light of recent information regarding the overall health and wellness of Rock County residents, The City of Janesville, in partnership with the Rock County Health Department and SSM Health, has begun a summer-long fitness challenge called “#Fit608” which is available to the community.
According to the Rock County Health Department, 67% of Rock County residents are overweight and 37% are obese. Meanwhile, 87% of residents have adequate access to locations for physical activity. Evidence shows that increased physical activity has been linked to lowering risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and improving mental health and overall well-being.
In conjunction with the June 8 opening of Wisconsin’s first outdoor Fitness Court in Janesville, the partners have created a fitness challenge that encourages area residents to make fitness goals for the summer. The program can be accessed at https://www.facebook.com/fit608, and more information can be found on the program’s brochure.
