City Recognizes Battalion Chief Scott Running for 32 Years of Service

Post Date:12/27/2017 10:17 a.m.

Janesville Fire Department Battalion Chief Scott Running will retire from service on December 29 following a 32 year career with the City of Janesville. Scott began working for the City in 1985 as an intern completing projects in all departments throughout City Hall on his way to achieving his Bachelor degree in Public Policy & Administration. He was hired later in 1985 by the Street Department where he spent five years before becoming a firefighter. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2011, captain in 2013, and battalion chief in 2014. Scott was also a member of the Dive, Hazardous Materials & Technical Rescue teams.  Scott has been a Licensed Paramedic for over 22 years.  Scott has also served in many special capacities, always willing to put in extra effort for the organization and community. Among many others, he served on the Fire Department’s Safety Committee and the City’s Employee Recognition Committee.

Scott grew up in a military family traveling the world before settling in Janesville with his family in 1979 and graduated from Craig High School in 1981. During his retirement, he plans to make up for time away from his family over his career (his son Josh works for the Janesville Water Utility). He and his wife Lisa plan to travel more often, especially to see their daughter, son-in-law, and grandson in Missouri. Scott also hopes to continue his work on WI-TF1 (Wisconsin’s Urban Search & Rescue Team) as a Safety Officer.

On one of his final days in the office, Scott shared he will greatly miss his co-workers, the men and women of the Janesville Fire Department that have become like family to him. However, he will not miss losing sleep from being awakened for service calls in the middle of the night. Scott tried to spend his career wanting to always be, “That Guy” that went the extra mile.  Scott would like to thank his Fire Department family for always being “That Guy” when our citizens need them.

The City of Janesville thanks Scott for devoting his career to serving the City and Janesville community. Please contact the City Manager’s Office with questions at (608) 755-3177.
